Unsung Hero: Christina Reno

Meet Christina!

“Wrangling tiny humans” is a big part of Pediatrics Medical Assistant and Vaccination Facilitator Christina Reno’s job at MRH.

“I talk to parents about vaccines a lot,” Reno said. “My day usually involves a handful of babies, a sprinkle of toddlers, and a couple of preteens and teens. I spend a lot of time educating families on vaccines and working with our team on care coordination. It’s all about reassuring parents and making sure our patients are supported from every angle.”

Christina has worked in real estate, as an elementary school paraprofessional, and more. “You name it. I’ve done a little bit of everything,” she said. But she also always knew she was meant to work in the healthcare field. When her grandfather’s health began to decline, she got started on her healthcare education so she could help care for him. (He later received a double lung transplant and is doing well.)

In 2021, Christina started at MRH as a phlebotomist and later moved over to Orthopedics then Women’s Health Services as a medical assistant. She loves the Pediatrics crew she works with today. “We’ve got a great team dynamic, and we truly support each other,” she said. “Also, nothing beats helping someone feel better—even if it’s just with a smile or a kind word as they pass our nurse station.” Christina is now also working on her bachelor’s degree in healthcare management—health informatics.

“Christina has seamlessly managed coverage for two providers when we have been short-staffed, all while approaching each day with a willingness to take on tough tasks,” said the colleague who nominated Christina as an Unsung Hero. “Her dedication to learning and growing continuously is truly inspiring, and she does it all with such grace and humility. I can’t think of anyone more deserving of this recognition.”

Christina is a native of New Castle, Colorado, and has lived in many places across the state. “I moved to Craig in December 2020 after graduating from ItelliTec College,” she said, “and I have to say, it’s my favorite community by far.”

At home, Christina shares a full house with two elementary-age daughters, a teenage niece, three dogs, a cat, and her husband, Jason, whom she married last year on Halloween in Las Vegas, with Beetlejuice officiating. That’s something else you should know about Christina—she’s a Halloween fanatic. “Halloween isn’t just a holiday—it’s my entire personality,” she said. “Our house is decorated for spooky season year-round, and every October my husband and I put on a free haunted house for the community.”

When she’s not working, you’ll find Christina and her family camping, riding side-by-sides, and generally enjoying the Colorado outdoors. She also volunteers with the Girl Scouts. “You’ll find me and my troop out braving the chilly Moffat County weather every February and March,” she said, “slinging cookies like pros.”

Your work at MRH is so important, Christina. You make a big difference in the lives of the patients and families you help care for, and your team is beyond grateful to have you working alongside them. Thank you for your amazing attitude and service.
