Unsung Hero: Mary Campbell

Meet Mary!

When you have a blood test done at MRH, your blood vials might end up in the expert hands of Mary Campbell. She works in the Medical Laboratory and serves as Chemistry Lead, which involves maintaining quality testing and upkeep of all chemistry panel processes and equipment. Common chemistry panels include basic metabolic panel (which measures things like blood glucose and potassium), liver function panel, and lipids (cholesterol and triglycerides) panel.

Mary is also Blood Bank Lead. In this role she manages the inventory of blood products, to ensure a sufficient supply when lifesaving transfusions are needed, and trains her colleagues in blood bank protocols.

On a typical day you’ll find Mary troubleshooting instrument issues, testing samples, and managing blood requests for trauma injuries. Mary became a laboratory technologist because she wanted to help people behind the scenes. “I love being able to help in the diagnosis and treatment plan of patients—and to possibly save a life,” she said. “I also like training and guiding the next generation of techs.”

“Mary keeps the lab in order and is a wonderful, helpful supervisor/mentor to all of us,” said the colleague who nominated her as Unsung Hero.

Mary lived in Florida and was a traveling lab tech when she first came to MRH eight years ago. “The staff here was very welcoming and professional,” she said.

When she’s not working, Mary likes to hike, kayak, and travel. She’s been married for 30 years and has four adult children. “No grandchildren, but we do have furbabies!” she added. One of her daughters is an E6 in the Air Force and splits her time between Okinawa and Alaska.

Mary, your consistent efforts help make our medical lab run smoothly and allow us to provide prompt, accurate, and lifesaving care to our community. Your great attitude is a blessing to your team. Thank you for everything you do!
