Unsung Hero: Jordan McLeslie
Meet Jordan!
Certified Pharmacy Technician Jordan McLeslie works in the MRH inpatient pharmacy, which provides medications to hospitalized, same-day surgery, and ER patients as well as patients receiving IV therapies in the Infusion Center.
Jordan served her first year in this role five years ago then left MRH to help her parents run their automotive repair shop in Craig. She returned to the pharmacy technician job at MRH in August 2024.
When asked what the inpatient pharmacy does, Jordan explained it this way: “If you are administered a drug from any of our facilities, someone in the inpatient pharmacy has handled it before it ended up with you. Our department manages drug purchasing, inventory management, restocking the Pyxis machines (which are the cabinets that dispense drugs to the nurses), making IV drugs for the Infusion Center (including chemotherapies), rotating soon-to-expire stock, cleaning and organizing. So from day to day, my job varies widely.”
Jordan especially likes compounding and making infusions for the infusion center and other patients who need IV drugs.
The colleague who nominated Jordan as an Unsung Hero said that her work keeps MRH running. “Jordan has been working as the solo fulltime inpatient pharmacy tech for months, despite having just come back to us after several years out of pharmacy. She’s how every care area gets their medications every day. She rocks!”
A Craig native, Jordan earned her bachelor’s degree at Colorado Mesa University in Grand Junction then came back to Craig. She and her husband are Colorado Avalanche fans and enjoy watching sports of all kinds. They also camp, hang out with their Border Collie, Cash, and enjoy being aunt and uncle to their seven nieces and nephews. Jordan recently started running and is excited to be training for her first half-marathon.
Jordan says that 17 Strong, an organization that provides travel opportunities to young adults battling life-threatening illnesses, is near and dear to her heart. “A friend that I went to school with at CMU founded the organization,” Jordan said. “He passed away from cancer and was not able to make a wish before he died, and he was too old for the Make-a-Wish Foundation. So he created 17 Strong to grant ‘victory trips’ to people aged 18 to 40. Ronald McDonald House is also an organization I support. My mom stayed there when my sister was at Children’s Hospital.”
Jordan, your work in the inpatient pharmacy is essential in a million ways. Your role may be invisible to patients, but we know how important you are to so many facets of their care. Thank you for your dedication and service.
