Meet Geana!  

As Clinic Manager and a member of the MRH team for a year and a half, Geana Shemak is charged with creating an environment in which the clinic staff and providers have everything they need to deliver safe, high-quality patient care, day in and day out.

“I really try to approach my role and my team with respect and understanding,” Geana said. “Acknowledging effort and making everyone feel heard often matters as much as anything. Being real with my team and addressing issues or concerns from their perspective and with curiosity helps set the tone to work through the struggles and achieve desirable outcomes. One of my mottos is ‘Leaders bring the weather,’ so I try to remain a constant for them, so they feel supported and appreciated.”

“She is really stepping up,” said the colleague who nominated her as Unsung Hero.

“There has not been a challenge she did not tackle.”

Geana believes that in her role, leadership is about listening, learning, and helping others be successful. “Being nominated as an Unsung Hero is meaningful,” she said, “but it’s being surrounded by people who do the real, day-to-day work that leads to success. I’m lucky to work with a team that consistently shows up, supports each other, and cares about the organization. Their commitment, resilience, and problem solving are what actually drive our impact, and that is what I love most about my role and team.”

Geana comes to us from rural southwest Wisconsin, where she was a Health Educator and Community Coordinator in public health. Here in Colorado, she’s enjoying spending time outdoors—hunting, fishing, camping, paddleboarding, “and just being active.”

Something not everyone knows about Geana is that she was once working toward obtaining a pilot’s license. “I’ve logged some time flying helicopters,” she said.
