Unsung Hero: Andy Owen

 Meet Andy!

As a Medical Lab Tech, Andy Owens spends his days loading specimens onto analyzers and performing tests to get you and your providers the lab results needed to guide your treatment. If the results are critical, this sometimes includes calling them in right away.

Andy has been a lab tech for nine years. Initially he worked as a histotechnician, preparing dermatology tissue samples for assessment by a pathologist. For the past two years he’s been in the MRH lab—a place he loves working because of the people he works with.

It’s a career path he sort of stumbled upon. “Honestly, I was tired of hard-labor jobs and picked a college program that didn’t involve lifting heavy boxes,” he said. “It was pure accident that I ended up loving the field.”

“Andy always steps in where the work is and keeps patients front and center,” said the colleague who nominated him as Unsung Hero. “He takes on tough workloads, helps without being asked, has great awareness and attention to detail, and delivers reliable results.”

A Texas native, Andy came to Colorado to work for MRH and is still amazed by the mountains. He loves finding dirt roads to go exploring on. He and his sister are both medical technologists, and his mother and aunt are both retired nurses.

In his free time, Andy also volunteers as mentor at Partners for Youth out of Steamboat Springs. He hopes to one day live in a cabin off the grid. And he’s a Houston Astros fan.

Andy, we’re so glad you found your way to Craig from Waco. Your colleagues appreciate your work ethic and focus on quality. The lab wouldn’t be the same without you. Thank you for serving your community.
