Unsung Hero: Sharmin Rice

Med-Surg Registered Nurse

Meet Sharmin!

Nominated for her willingness to help her team, cover shifts, and always lend a helping hand – Shar Rice truly exemplifies the spirit of an unsung hero! As a dedicated nurse in the Med-Surge unit, she takes care of patients who are battling illnesses or recovering from surgeries. With a compassionate heart, Shar loves being able to make a difference in people’s lives by helping them improve their health.

“Every day in healthcare you have the opportunity to help make someone’s life better, even if it’s just for a short time, and every day I am honored I get to do that.”

Inspired by her aunt, who was a nurse, she knew from an early age that she wanted to make a difference in people’s lives. Shar’s nursing journey started with volunteering at a local nursing home alongside her grandma who taught Sunday school there. This experience led her to become a Certified Nursing Assistant for about 10 years, and eventually a Registered Nurse.

Shar is a Colorado native who has spent most of her life in and out of Craig, thanks to her grandparents who continued to live here. After moving back at 18, she’s been here ever since.

When not working, you’ll find Shar cherishing quality time with family, going to concerts or exploring new destinations. She also loves showering her adorable pup and bird with love. Together with her husband Bill, she has two amazing daughters, Velvet and Diamond, and an adorable granddaughter named Sadie. Although they currently reside in Iowa, they frequently gather at different locations for fun-filled family adventures.

You may not know, Shar was a Girl Scout leader for many years! She believes in the power of mentorship for young girls, helping them realize their potential and exploring the amazing world around them.

Next time you see Shar, please help us congratulate and give her thanks for being our Unsung Hero!
