Unsung Hero: Courtney Elven

Meet Courtney!

With unwavering dedication to both her patients and her team, Courtney Elven, a Revenue Cycle Support Specialist at Memorial Regional Health (MRH), truly embodies what it means to be an Unsung Hero.

In her role as a Revenue Cycle Support Specialist, Courtney works on special projects within the revenue cycle department and handles all MRH’s Lifeline billing. Before starting this new role, she was a customer service representative, helping patients understand their bills and insurance plans, as well as assisting them in applying for insurance. As she described, “Many people do not fully understand their insurance plans and I try to help bridge that gap.”

Courtney’s journey into healthcare began at the age of 19, driven by a passion for the field. While she realized that she couldn’t stomach some of the clinical aspects of healthcare, she found her strength in numbers and was determined to pursue a career in medical billing. Now fully immersed in this field, Courtney knows she made the right choice as she continually encounters new challenges, opportunities to solve problems, and the chance to assist patients with their billing inquiries.

Originally from Louisburg, Kansas, Courtney moved to Denver with her husband. After losing their jobs due to COVID-19, they moved to Craig, Colorado, where they lived in various campgrounds before finding an apartment. They loved the area so much that they bought a house six months later and have now been living in Craig for three years.

Courtney is married to Chase, and they have two children, Charlotte (7) and Chase Jr. (6). Their weekends are often spent camping and exploring the outdoors. The family is also deeply involved in gold mining, spending summers in Naturita digging and running their Gold Hog, a hobby that has connected them with a wonderful community of fellow gold diggers.

One thing people might not know about Courtney is that she and her husband lost their marriage certificate when they first got married. She recently found it and will soon be using her “new” last name—Bedney.

MRH is honored to have Courtney as part of our team, making a difference in the lives of countless individuals every day. Thank you, Courtney, for your selfless commitment to helping others and ensuring the well-being of our patients. You are truly an inspiration to us all!
