Meet Gabe Heil

Gabe Heil is a paramedic with Memorial Regional Health (MRH), whose dedication and commitment to saving lives make him an Unsung Hero!

In his role as a paramedic, Gabe’s main responsibility is to respond to medical emergencies via 911 calls. He also assists with the Quality Assurance (QA) process, ensuring that all staff members provide the best possible care to patients.

Gabe’s journey into emergency medical services began in 2009 when he witnessed a devastating rollover accident while driving to work in the oil fields. Despite his heroic efforts to administer CPR, the young victim tragically did not survive. After this impactful experience, Gabe decided to enroll in an EMT course, setting him on the path of becoming a paramedic.

Before joining MRH in March 2020, Gabe worked at the Clifton Fire Department and CareFlight of the Rockies as a flight paramedic, gaining invaluable practice in emergency medical care. During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Gabe also spent six months working in a critical care unit in New York City, showcasing his dedication to serving those in need, no matter the circumstances.

At MRH, Gabe finds fulfillment in knowing that every day at work, he has the opportunity to positively impact someone’s life during a distressing situation. He credits the supportive environment at MRH, along with the guidance of his manager, Justin Doubrava, and CEO, Jennifer Riley, for fostering his growth as a paramedic. Gabe also expresses gratitude for the friendships he has formed at MRH and acknowledges the hospital’s vital role in providing essential healthcare services to the town of Craig and surrounding areas.

Outside of work, Gabe enjoys playing hockey twice a week with his colleague Erik, who is still honing his skills in the game. He has been a resident of Palisade for the past 30 years and cherishes the sense of community on the Western Slope.
