Recently I was a guest on Moffat County Proud’s podcast, The NW. It was a fun conversation, and I got the opportunity to answer a lot of their questions. One question that stood out to me was “What is the greatest misperception about the hospital?” I was and am more than happy to dispel the misperception that care somewhere else is better than here. That is simply NOT true.

Memorial Regional Health saw more than 100,000 patient visits and diagnostic services in 2021. This includes over 3,000 inpatient days, over 3,800 surgical procedures, close to 6,000 ER visits, and more than 30,000 clinic visits. We also took care of over 1,800 home health patients, treated over 6,000 physical therapy patients and over 2,000 occupational patients. Our speech therapists treated almost 1,700 patients. Radiology saw over 17,000 patients, and lab completed over 74,000 lab tests.

While our statistics are remarkable, something that really points to why this is a great place to get care is our nearly zero infection rate. We have a nearly zero percent infection rate. What does that actually mean? It means that typically, fewer than 1 in 100 people acquire an infection as a result of their hospital visit – whether that is an outpatient surgery, a visit to the ER or an inpatient stay. This is well below the 4% national average for Critical Access Hospitals.

Our commitment to following best practices and providing evidence-based medicine is clearly demonstrated by the number of patients who return home infection-free. MRH’s mission is “To improve the quality of life for the communities we serve through patient-centered healthcare and service excellence,” and this is well-demonstrated by our nearly zero percent infection rate. Everyone who works here and cares for patients plays a role in our infection-prevention efforts, from the doctors and nurses providing direct patient care, to the environmental services staff who keep our facility spotless.

Simply put, the care at MRH is exceptional. Would I bring my parents, husband and daughter here to get care? Absolutely, and I have. I know without question that the people who work here care deeply about what they do and for whom they treat. There is no better place to get care than where you know you’ll be in good hands.

Sincerely,
Jennifer Riley, MHA
