About Dr. Aaron Stewart

Medical Background

As an undergraduate student, Dr. Stewart studied biochemistry at Brigham Young University in Utah and was inspired and humbled by the complexity of life. Upon graduation, he worked in medical research, which ultimately led him to his current career in healthcare. He continues to learn and research today, always applying his newfound knowledge toward helping his patients.

Aaron Stewart, DO

“My main goal in approaching patient care is to first understand the health goals of my patient,” he said. “By understanding their goals and what is important to them, we can form a better partnership as we work together to find good health.”

Dr. Stewart will visit with MRH patients of any age for any reason, whether chronic or acute. He assists patients with musculoskeletal pain through osteopathic manual therapy and acupuncture and is also interested in lifestyle medicine.

Dr. Stewart has professional affiliations with the American Academy of Family Physicians, the American Osteopathic Association and the American Society of Addiction Medicine. He completed his residency at Southern Colorado Family Medicine in Pueblo and received his Doctor of Osteopathy from Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences in Yakima, Wash.

“Working in healthcare, I have the privilege of getting a glimpse into the lives of my patients,” he said. “Listening and understanding someone’s story and how it relates to their current health, and then playing a role in improving their health, is the most rewarding part about my job.”

Personal Interests

Seeking a small, tight-knit community close to nature, Dr. Stewart and his family saw Craig as a perfect fit for their needs. During the winter, he loves to throw on some skis with his wife and two sons and head for the mountains. Fun fact: Dr. Stewart was once a ski instructor at Brighton Ski Resort and Park City Mountain Resort in Utah.

In the summertime, Dr. Stewart and his family enjoy rock climbing — he and his wife take turns holding their youngest son while the other climbs — and hiking. They also enjoy going on neighborhood walks, building Legos with their 4-year-old and all the general craziness that goes with raising two boys.

“I’ve met some great people at MRH, and I’m looking forward to getting to know the wonderful people and families of Craig,” he concluded.

About Lexa Johnson, FNP

Medical Background

Johnson’s interest in healthcare sparked at a young age. In fact, her first job was as an office administrator in a prosthetics and orthotics office. After shadowing her uncle, who is a physician assistant, she knew the medical field was the perfect fit for her.

Lexa Johnson, FNP

Johnson has hundreds of hours of clinical experience as a nurse, mostly in hospitals around Georgia. Now a family nurse practitioner, she plays an integral role in the well-being of her patients.

“I really appreciate the problem-solving that is involved and getting to work together with patients in a collaborative manner,” she said. “I enjoy the constant learning that is involved as new research develops and we continue to discover new information about various disease processes.”

Johnson will work daily at the MRH Medical Clinic, visiting with family medicine patients. She received her Master of Science in Nursing — with a 4.0 GPA, may we add — from Emory University in Atlanta, Ga. She has a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the same university, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Medical Humanities from Baylor University in Waco, Texas.

“My main goal is to help patients achieve their best picture of health, which is unique to each individual,” she said. “I love getting to understand their background and what a good quality of life looks like for them.”

Personal Interests

Johnson grew up in Littleton and was fortunate to spend much of her time in Grand Lake. She fell in love with the small, mountain-town feel and the closeness of the community.

“When the opportunity to move to Craig presented itself, I was extremely excited to be able to start my career in a similar small, rural community,” she said. “I am so in awe of the way small communities rally together and support one another.”

Outside of work, Johnson is an avid biker. She loves road cycling, but mountain biking is her favorite — she loves to pedal uphill and get in some fast downhills, too.

When she’s not on a bike, Johnson enjoys fly fishing, backpacking and reading. In the winters, you’ll find her hitting the ski slopes or ski touring the backcountry. Last winter, she worked on ski patrol at Winter Park Resort and truly enjoyed her time there. Now, she’s truly looking forward to integrating into the Craig community and finding her place here.

“It is an absolute honor to be welcomed into this new community,” Johnson concluded. “I look forward to becoming part of the community and getting involved in more than just daily office work.”
