Letter From Our CEO: 15 Things I’ve Seen in 15 Years

As we get ready to celebrate 75 years as a community hospital, September marked 15 years for me as a member of the Memorial Regional Health team. When I started here, I never could have imagined the journey this organization and this community would take together. Over those years, I’ve served in different roles, and now as CEO, I have the privilege of seeing the full picture of who we are.

I thought the best way to capture these years was to share 15 things I’ve seen in my time at MRH.

           MRH CEO, Jennifer Riley

  1. I’ve seen compassion in action — staff comforting patients, families, and each other during their hardest moments.
  2. I’ve seen excellence in care — clinicians holding themselves to the highest standards.
  3. I’ve seen unshakable teamwork — people coming together when resources were stretched thin.
  4. I’ve seen moments of joy — laughter in the hallways, celebrations of new life, and the small wins that keep us going.
  5. I’ve seen the darkest days of the pandemic — life-changing moments that tested us all.
  6. And I’ve seen our resilience beyond measure as we came out of that storm stronger, united, and determined.
  7. I’ve seen us struggle through financial uncertainty, when survival was not guaranteed.
  8. And I’ve seen us make a comeback, with wise choices and sheer grit that restored our strength.
  9. I’ve seen innovation in rural healthcare — bringing technology and partnerships that once seemed impossible.
  10. I’ve seen the power of collaboration with our schools, local leaders, and regional partners.
  11. I’ve seen generations of families cared for — grandparents, parents, children and grandchildren who all trust MRH.
  12. I’ve seen us grow services so fewer patients have to leave home for the care they need.
  13. I’ve seen dedication — staff who’ve given decades of their lives to this hospital.
  14. I’ve seen new energy and ideas from those who’ve joined us along the way.
  15. And most of all, I’ve seen hope for the future — the unwavering belief that we can keep adapting, keep improving, and keep serving this community for generations to come.

Fifteen years is a milestone, but it’s also a reminder: the work we do matters, and it will keep mattering. I am honored to have spent these years at MRH — and I look forward to what’s ahead.

Sincerely,
Jennifer Riley, MHA, FACHE
