Meet Dr. Rice!

If you’re admitted to The Memorial Hospital, your care may be overseen by one of our hospitalist physicians. Hospitalists are the doctors who manage inpatient care from admission to discharge. Dr. Rice has been an MRH hospitalist since 2021.

“When I was 5 years old, sitting on the floor of my parents’ garage, I decided that I wanted to be a doctor,” Dr. Rice said. “I’m not sure why. I never changed my mind after that.”

Dr. Rice has also worked at Memorial Hospital of Carbon County (Wyoming). He retired from the US Army in 2019 and moved to Colorado.

“I love working with the nurses, therapists, and other physicians to help people feel better,” Dr. Rice said.  “I love solving a difficult problem. I love that I have a job in which I can learn new things every day.”

“Dr. Rice is such a special doctor to his patients,” said the colleague who nominated him as Unsung Hero. “He walks with his patients to check on them. He listens and responds to his patients. We even see him take cottage cheese or drinks to his patients. He is very polite and humble. He is truly the best.”

Dr. Rice grew up in California. He enlisted in the US Army in 1987 (reserve), went on active duty in 1993, and has lived all over the world with his family, including South Korea, Italy, Germany, Iraq, Washington State, Maryland, North Carolina, Kansas, and Georgia.

Outside of work, Dr. Rice likes being physically active. “In the summers I enjoy hiking, biking, swimming, SCUBA diving, and gardening,” he said. “In the winters I enjoy snowboarding. I love to travel.”

Dr. Rice, your colleagues and patients appreciate you so much. Your empathy, humility, and professionalism truly set you apart. We are so lucky to have you on our hospitalist team. Thank you for choosing MRH.
